SANFORD
Soils: Pinole gravelly loam, Mariposa loam, Tehama loam and Yolo Loam.
Pinole Series
The Pinole series consists of deep, well drained soils in the form of alluvial fans which have weathered from sedimentary and other rock sources. Pinole soils are most commonly found on terraces with slopes of 0 to 30 percent. This series is well drained with slow to rapid runoff and moderately slow permeability. Natural vegetation includes annual grasses, manzanita, madrone, live oak, white oak, black oak, poison-oak and ponderosa pine.
Mariposa Series
The Mariposa series consists of moderately deep well drained soils formed from material weathered from tilted slates and schists. These soils are located on ridges and mountain sides with slopes from 2 to 75 percent. Mariposa soils are well-drained with slow to very rapid runoff and moderate permeability. Natural vegetation is typically composed of mixed conifers, black oak, tan oak, manzanita and poison oak.
Tehama Series
The Tehama series consists of well drained soils on alluvial fans and terraces derived from sandstone and shale. Slope is 0 to 5 percent and the effective rooting depth is usually 60 inches or greater. Permeability is slow with an available water holding capacity of 10 to 12 inches. Native plant cover includes annual grasses, forbs, and scattered oak.
Yolo Series
The Yolo series consists of well drained soils located on alluvial fans with slopes ranging from 0 to 5 percent. These soils formed from recent alluvium deposits from near by drainages and have an effective rooting depth of 60 inches or greater. Permeability is moderate with an available water holding capacity of 10 to 12 inches.
